Jammu, Jan 25 (KNO): The Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday approved Rs 1.12 lakh crore budget of the Union Territory for 2025-26, with passage of the Appropriation Bill.
After the culmination of the Question Hour, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO),the Assembly passed the Appropriation Bill for 2025-26 (L.A. Bill No. 3 of 2025) introduced by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Finance portfolio.
The bill was passed in the absence of BJP members, who had staged a walkout earlier over the issue of daily wagers.
It also passed the Appropriation Bill for the financial year 2024-25 to approve supplementary grants for the current financial year.
The passage of the bills marked the culmination of the process of approval to the budget for next financial year.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had unveiled Rs 1, 12,310 crore budget for J&K in the Assembly March 07. It was after a gap of seven years that J&K’s budget was presented in its own Assembly.
In his budget speech, Omar had announced free electricity and free ration for the families covered under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) scheme.
He had also announced enhancement of pension to vulnerable sections of the society including old-aged persons, widows, divorcees and specially –abled persons.
The Assembly would now meet on April 7, 8 and 9 to take up resolutions and bills submitted by members from the opposition as well as treasury benches—(KNO)
